Great comedy with famous people you’ve seen in things but can’t quite place. Definitely worth the trip and the hassle of parking. Definitely worth a trip to LA from wherever you live that isn’t LA. Come to Groundlings. Don’t go to any other improve show ever!

I will go against the grain and say that my experience here on a Friday night was not outstanding. There was definitely a strong and laudable attempt to produce live comedy, but I left with my brother only wondering where and why the comedy didn't work. I don't want to be any harsher than a three star review, but I had to pity laugh at times because I felt bad for the performers. Maybe the line-up wasn't particularly strong that particular night. There was a lack of comedy. Nevertheless, I have heard numerous good things about the venue, and it was my first time, so my judgment rests in the center.

Tickets are $25, no drink minimum or even drink service. The sketch comedy is pretty good and the musicians are amazing.
(Some reviews mentioned a strange Covid policy. That must be old. Everything is normal here.)

Happiness is Contagious at The Groundling’s Theater 🙂

There’s something about watching people do what they love. The performers at The Groundlings were clearly having the time of their lives last Thursday night. The way they embraced ridiculousness was hysterical and inspiring. Seeing that kind of passion and fearlessness on stage reminded me of how much joy there is in just letting go.

The most endearing moment of the night was watching the musicians play along with the pace of the performance. These guys were truly beaming with pride. This is by far, one of the most entertaining and heartwarming things to do in LA.

Marketing says this is like SNL but it's mostly people in wigs yelling at each other, with performers that take it very seriously. You will not see "up and coming" anyone, though you might see a face or two from an ad. Try UCB, The Pack, Comedy Store, Laugh Factory, The Improv instead.

The Crazy Uncle Joe Show (Wednesdays 8pm) is always excellent: spontaneous, absurd, risqué, loaded with clever callbacks and kooky - but recognisable - characters. We love the simplicity of the format, and particularly glimpsing the waiting performers working out the next scene and comic beat. And, at this day & time, we always seem to get a park on Melrose.
